Conventional Seal Materials

Virgin PTFE

PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is a Fluorocarbon based polymer. This seating material has excellent chemical resistance and a low coefficient of friction. PTFE is non-contaminating and accepted by the FDA for use in food services. Not recommended for liquid alkali's and fluorine.  Temperature range: -40 deg C to +232 deg C.
Color: White.

TFM™ 1600

TFM™ 1600 is a modified TFE polymer. A second generation PTFE that maintains the exceptional chemical and heat resistance properties of first generation PTFE. It has a far denser polymer structure than conventional PTFE and exhibits better stress recovery. This is important for application such as seats, seals and gaskets. Carries WRAS, 3A and FDA approvals making it suitable for use on Potable Water applications and an ideal material for Cavity Filled Sanitary Ball Valve Seats.
Temperature range: -40 deg C to +260 deg C.
Color: Opalescent White.

15% Glass Filled PTFE

15% Glass Filled PTFE's (Reinforced Polytetrafluoroethylene) mechanical properties are enhanced by adding a 15% Glass fiber filler material to provide improved strength, stability and wear resistance than conventional unfilled PTFE. This material is abrasive on the valve ball. Temperature range: -40 deg C to +232 deg C. Color: Off-White

25% Glass Filled PTFE

25% Glass Filled PTFE (Reinforced Polytetrafluoroethylene) is similar to the above but with even better resistance to wear and deformation under load. More abrasive than 15% filled PTFE.
Temperature range: -40 deg C to +232 deg C.
Color: Off-White

Carbon Graphite filled TFM

This is a TFM™ 1600 base filled with Glass Amorphous Carbon Powder and Graphite. It has a far lower thermal expansion-contraction rate than conventional TFM and is the ideal choice for use on Steam and Thermal Fluid applications.
Temperature range: -40 deg C to +260 deg C (+320 deg C on Thermal Fluid applications).
Color: Black

UHMWPE

UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) also known as High Modulus Polyethylene (HMPE) or High Performance Polyethylene (HPPE) is an extremely tough material. It is highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, with the exception of oxidising acids and organic solvents. It has a very low coefficient of friction and is highly resistant to abrasion. It is widely specified for use on Tobacco and Nuclear applications.
Temperature range: -40 deg C to +80 deg C.
Color: Pale White

PCTFE

PCTFE (Polychlorotrifluoroethylene) is a homo-polymer of Chlorotrifluoroethylene. It has a high compressive strength and low deformation under load. In particular, it's cold flow characteristic is lower than all other fluoropolymers and it does not deform under load at room temperature. PCTFE has extremely low gas permeability and essentially does not absorb moisture. This material is generally only used for Cryogenic applications such as Oxygen, Hydrogen and Nitrogen.
Temperature range: -270 deg C to +260 deg C.
Colour: Translucent White

Peek

Peek (Polyetheretherketone) is an organic polymer thermoplastic. It offers a unique combination of Chemical, Mechanical and Thermal properties. Excellent for use on Water and Steam applications at elevated temperatures and has a melt point of  343 deg C. It is an extremely robust material and is one of the very few plastics compatible with ultra-high vacuum applications. PEEK is considered an advanced bio-material for use in medical implants. It is highly resistant to thermal degradation as well as attack by both organic and aqueous environments. It also has excellent resistance to radiation. It is unsuitable for use on Halogens and strong Bronsted and Lewis acids (such as concentrated Sulfuric Acid) as well as some halogenated compounds and aromatic hydrocarbons at high temperatures.
Temperature range: -40 deg C to +340 deg C.
Color: Beige

50% Stainless Steel Filled PTFE

Stainless Steel Filled PTFE has enhanced mechanical properties by the use of a 50% by weight (or 15% by volume) Stainless Steel Powder filling. The material is extremely hard wearing, has excellent strength and stability under extreme loads and elevated temperatures whilst still retaining the low coefficient of friction of conventional PTFE. It is an extremely versatile product and can be used on Steam and Thermal Fluid applications. It is also an extremely good seat material for use in V-Ball type Flow Control Ball Valve applications due to it's high resistance to wear.
Temperature range: -40 deg C to +260 deg C.
Color: Silver Grey
